Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu is fighting for his life at Charlotte Maxeke hospital where he has spent the last three weeks, as reported by Sunday Sun.

According to the report, Moshoeu is in a critical condition and is so ill he cannot do things for himself. Fans pour their heart felt prayers on social media wishing John Moshoeu a quick recovery.

Shoes, as he is best known to fans, was born in Soweto, Gauteng. He played as a professional for Giant Blackpool before he joined South African giants Kaizer Chiefs where he remained one of the most valued players from 1988 to 1993.

He had some of the most brilliant skills that one of the most respected football commentators once said these words: ” he holds on to the ball as if it was tightened to his feet with wires with a relative amount of ease”. On his day, he would create a move toward goal with the intention of scoring. He possessed very good pace for a man of his height and could get through the whole defence by placing the ball wherever he wanted, into the net for a beautiful goal.

He later signed with FIFA agent Marcelo Houseman who made his transfer to Genclerbirligi after the President Cavcav flew to Johannesburg to see him played. He also played for Bursaspor and then was transferred to giants Fenerbahce where he was a favorite with the fans.

He went back to Kaizer Chiefs at age 37 where he somehow, at his age, continued to excite his old fans with the same enthusiasm, skill and somewhat vintage character in 2002. He played there until 2006. He then joined AmaZulu where he ended his career in 2008 at the age of 42. The attacking midfielder announced on 6 November 2010 his comeback with Brian Baloyi as owners of a South African club Alexandra United FC
