The Greatest Showman: Musical Masterpiece

The Greatest Showman 2017

Release Date in South Africa Theatres –  3 March 2018

Storyline:

Orphaned, penniless but ambitious and with a mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American Phineas Taylor Barnum will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction. Thirsty for innovation and hungry for success, the son of a tailor will manage to open a wax museum but will soon shift focus to the unique and peculiar, introducing extraordinary, never-seen-before live acts on the circus stage. Some will call Barnum’s wide collection of oddities, a freak show; however, when the obsessed for cheers and respectability showman gambles everything on the opera singer Jenny Lind to appeal to a high-brow audience, he will somehow lose sight of the most important aspect of his life: his family. Will Barnum risk it all to be accepted?

#MM RECOMMENDATION

We feel bad for not reviewing this movie in 2017 when it was sent to us. If Sounds of Music was made in 2017, this movie would be it. An original masterpiece that titillates all magical senses in its true form.  This movie was Hugh Jackman’s dream, it took 7.5 years to make, It is the first time we would see Hugh Jackman perform anything from an action scene and he nailed this one, so well.

Jumanji was supposed to be a one-and-done film, even though it teased the potential for a sequel. Many voiced trepidation at the prospect of a sequel after all these years later, and after the tragic death of original star Robin Williams, there were valid concerns about whether this sequel could be both a good movie and a fitting sequel and tribute to what had come before.

It has been SO long since a movie/musical was made exceptionally.  This movie is absolutely FANTASTIC! Everything from the incredible, toe-tapping, music to the heartfelt, dream-filled, story-line. It so easy to get filtered into the magical scenes of a well-orchestrated musical that will leave you feeling inspired and entertained.

What the film does differently in the body-switching is that these tropes are transferred onto adult actors, people who each have tropes of their own, and the way that each actor gets to play against their type is definitely what makes this movie so fun.

On the flip side, the story is not completely accurate to how P. T. Barnum was. Well it is a musical, not a documentary. It still was a well-written story. Barnum was flawed in the movie, at times uncaring or selfish.

The scenes of the circus were just amazing. The choreography was very well done. The songs also are excellent and performed by very talented singers. The movie also shows the importance of having compassion for those who are different, and the effects of racism, and standing up to racism. The songs are very catchy and will stay in your head, and the movie is uplifting. Each actor held their own and fit well into their role. This movie has so much talent and effort put into it and deserves to become a classic.

If you want some inspiration on life, business and find a way to learn to be committed and stay true to your dreams. This movie is an inspiration masterpiece that would be great for friends, lovers and a lovely family movie.
