On January 12, 2024, a brand-new biopic titled Bob Marley: One Love will be released. The iconic guitarist is portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir, best known for playing Malcolm X in Amazon’s One Night in Miami. Early in 2022, Ben-Adir was chosen following “a thorough, 365-day global search,” according to Variety.
“Bob Marley: One Love celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. On the big screen for the first time, discover Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music.”
The movie, which also stars Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers, and Nadine Marshall, is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley said on Instagram that his family and Paramount Pictures produced it. He said, “You’ve heard the music and you think you know the man, but do you really understand what he went through and what moments shaped him into the person he became?” According to him, the movie was filmed in Jamaica and England. He further stated:
“Authenticity fills the screen with numerous Jamaican actors doing us proud in representing the culture. Filmed at the actual places where Bob walked, played football and sang like Trench Town and Bull Bay in Kingston, it is an artistic creation that we are proud of and want you to enjoy to be entertained but also to be inspired.”
The movie is being produced by Plan B Entertainment, State Street Pictures, and Tuff Gong Production.
