Uncle Waffles, who was born in the Kingdom of Eswatini, is the talk of the town after being praised by global superstar Kelly Rowland in a recent interview. “There’s this really cool DJ out right now, her name is Uncle Waffles, and she’s got so much personality,” said the former Destiny’s Child member.
Some social media users however expressed their disappointment in Rowland regarding her lack of knowledge on Uncle Waffles’s origins. “She’s from Africa, uh, Nigeria, South Africa; I can’t remember exactly, but she’s so cool,” said Rowland.
“She’s just played Coachella, but I’ve been knowing about this girl for at least a year now,” the motivation hitmaker added in the interview. “So, it’s really cool to feel like I’ve known this person since then.”
Lungelihle Zwane, who is popularly know as Uncle Waffles, got her big break in 2021 when a video of her dancing throughout a DJ set in Johannesburg, Soweto went viral. A year later, she released her debut album, which was her major musical breakthrough.
Millions of people have listened to her EP Red Dragon on various streaming services. In September, her hit single Tanzania achieved quadruple platinum status.
