For months, there has been a lot of anticipation about the Miami, US, Afro Nation festival. The festival took place over the weekend in the well-known American party hotspot five years on from its initial iteration.
After its Ghana edition, which featured artists like Stonebwoy, Meek Mill, Rema, and Skepta, the event made its triumphant return late last year. This time, the local amapiano contingent seemed to dominate the night despite there being Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats headliners WizKid and Burna Boy.
Based on the countless videos that have been circulating online, amapiano artists Uncle Waffles, Musa Keys, DBN Gogo, Kelvin Momo, Focalistic, and Major League DJz were among those that had the LoanDepot Park stadium audience eating out of their hands.
Videos posted by Musa Keys and Uncle Waffles showed the crowd dancing and singing along to all of their songs. Focalistic released footage of himself performing on stage and having a good time along with Pabi Cooper and Poco Lee on Sunday.
From June 28 to 30, Afro Nation will return to one of its most well-liked locations, the gorgeous Portuguese city of Portimo. Headliners include 50 Cent, Davido, Burna Boy, and Booba. It will then return to the US in August, this time at Bedrock’s Douglass Site in Detroit, Michigan. US celebrities Ari Lennox and Coi Leray will headline the festival alongside DJ Maphorisa, Major League DJz, Kamo Mphela, and DBN Gogo.
