According to reports, Tony and Lynn Forbes, who are AKA’s parents, have been informed that Anele Tembe’s death investigations have been reopened. The late rapper’s fiancee Anele “Nelli” Tembe’s death is becoming the subject of a new investigation. This is the result of additional requests made by her family to the NPA, according to Sunday World. The Tembes are certain that suicide was not the cause of their daughter’s untimely passing.
Anele, the daughter of Durban tycoon Moses Tembe, died in an accident in April 2021 in Cape Town after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel on Loop Street. She was reportedly with AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes. AKA, who was shot dead in February of this year in Durban in what is thought to be an assassination, is thought by many to have pushed her.
According to a source in Sunday World, Lynn and Tony Forbes, the parents of AKA, were told of the reinvestigation last week. However, It’s unclear whether their late son is the main suspect. Anele’s family reportedly wrote an explosive letter to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in June of last year after Nicolette Bell, the director of public prosecution in the Western Cape, informed them that she would not pursue prosecution against AKA after making a “informed decision” based on a “extensive investigation” that included “several expert opinions and forensic reports.” The opening of the investigation is said to be the result of this.
The shocking letter from the Tembe attorneys accusing the rapper of pushing or tossing Anele off the balcony the morning of her death was released by City Press on February 17—seven days after AKA’s murder. The Tembes claimed in the letter that there was proof Anele was acting in self-defense.
“The scratch marks on Forbes’s body, specifically at the back, were defensive marks, in an upward direction, indicating that Forbes was carrying Anele on his shoulders while she attempted to defend herself. The scratch marks are indicative that Forbes threw her over the balcony,” read parts of the letter.
In addition, Anele’s family declared that there were no fingerprints to support the first theory that their daughter had climbed over the balcony. They stated that AKA and Anele were bickering just before the tragedy, and that the police disregarded Rob Stefanutto’s account of their argument.
Additionally, the Tembes asserted that AKA allegedly cleaned the blood-spattered hotel room before calling for help after their altercation and only after Anele had already collapsed.
The letter read: “He did not attend to his injured fiancé, who remained alive for approximately 20 minutes. He did not go to perform CPR on her; instead, Stefanutto, a complete stranger, cared enough to administer CPR and call emergency services in an attempt to save Anele Tembe’s life”.
