For the first time in five years, the Metro FM Music Awards finally made a comeback this past weekend. The ceremony took place at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 06 May. Amongst the list of winners was the late rapper AKA who was gunned down and murdered in Durban a few months ago. The rapper along with his long term friend, Tebello Motsoane were murdered in cold blood while leaving a restaurant in Durban. With investigations still ongoing for their murder, AKA managed to scoop four awards out of the six he was nominated for that Saturday evening.
He won awards in four categories which included Artist of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Artist. The awards were received by his family and his team as he came out to be the biggest winner of the night. It was surely a very emotional moment for his family and those who supported and voted for him. While receiving the award his mother Lynn Forbes said:
“Kiernan honey, you have come full circle today. You won your first Metro FM Music Awards in this province. Even then, he was among the most winners of the night. Even today the same happens.”
As part of their celebration close friends and family members of the star visited his gravesite. Images were shared on social media from his grave at Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg. His tombstone was covered with the South African flag and decked with his four awards in celebration of his huge achievements.
