Captain America: Civil War was thrilling

Storyline

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.

#MM RECOMMENDATION

what a film! What a lovely, lovely film! Every minute, every second was nothing but pure entertainment and cinematic glory. Civil War doesn’t quite recapture the wonderment and sheer awesomeness of the Avengers, but it comes very close – however, it is ultimately the superior film.

Sporting what is arguably the best action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America is a non-stop thrill ride. The airport scene (as corny as it may appear in teasers) is one of the best action scenes to grace the marvel Cinematic Universe, and the way it is choreographed and filmed is beyond spectacular. The sense of childish bewilderment and the rush of adrenaline that occurred during this scene was overpowering and i sat in awe for quite some time afterward. Spiderman’s addition was also as imagined as spectacular as it played out.

The tone from Winter Soldier has been carried over into the heavily anticipated sequel and furthers the storyline in spectacular fashion. yes, as seen in the trailers, there are a lot of characters involved in this film. In past, this has meant bad news (Amazing Spider Man 2, Spider Man 3, Age of Ultron) but not in this instant. However, each character is given their due; seamlessly tied into the story and each receiving adequate screen time and narrative.

However, as in tradition with most Marvel films – the villains are extremely poor. Marvel seem to have consistent issues in producing decent villains, and this is by no means an exception. However, it is a rather minor component of the film and is wholly forgivable.

It’s is exciting, tense, and an absolute blast of a time. For not one single minute was I bored or disinterested. As it stands, Captain America: Civl War may just be one of the greatest comic book movies of all time.

An enjoyable sequence enjoyable and watchable movie that is fit for every fan of Marvel comics and the average thrill lover.

It’s like the mummy classics, you hope the next sequel will be better than the last but then the last one becomes the only reason you keep watching the new releases! We would not want anyone to believe we hate Vin and we sure love him but this sequel downgraded the action acclaimed xXx from an action movie.

We had to re-watch the first make to actually get to give a review of this latest addition. Forbes may have it as a success in figures as well as rating agencies but this is a movie that does not weigh in very well with xXx fans. Let us start with the least expected on the scene, and that is Deepika Padukone. She definitely would be nicer in a love story or a Chickasaw remake but not an FX action movie and she brings out the disconnect in the movie. Ice Cube coming to the play at the end was also not a very smooth play, as one almost forgot he was part of the xXx franchise. The director could have placed him mid scene and maybe the fire could have cached on well. Vin Diesel should stick the o Fast and Furious franchise, 2002 XXX was much better. Rest of the star cast is assembled to just please the producers “Shanghai Movies”.

We sure believe everyone has to see the movie to understand why we downgraded the movie from an action all star it was in the first make. The FX are still good but the story-line is awful and it shows that less work was put into getting an actually story out but the director sure wanted to create some action scene without the blend of a story to balance it.  Die hard fans could easily manage the movie but anyone hoping to get a feel of the fast and furious delivery would be disappointed, this is not the movie and we believe this affected the sales of the movies as we saw at the cinemas. But Strange enough the average action lover would still manage it well.

It really didn’t get the best movie we have watched and it is not going to win any awards but still would be a good watch for friends and families, definitely not for lovers or the curious, you might just doze off.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Hogwarts wizardry rescripted

Storyline

Holding a mysterious leather suitcase in his hand, Newt Scamander, a young activist wizard from England, visits New York while he is on his way to Arizona. Inside his expanding suitcase hides a wide array of diverse, magical creatures that exist among us, ranging from tiny, twig-like ones, to majestic and humongous ones. It is the middle of the 20s and times are troubled since the already fragile equilibrium of secrecy between the unseen world of wizards and the ordinary or “No-Maj” people that the MACUSA Congress struggles to maintain, is at risk of being unsettled. In the meantime, the voices against wizardry keep growing with daily protests led by Mary Lou Barebone and fuelled by the increasing disasters ascribed to a dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald. At the same time, by a twist of fate, Newt’s precious suitcase will be switched with the identical one of an aspiring No-Maj baker, Jacob Kowalski, while demoted Auror, Tina Goldstein, arrests Newt for being an unregistered wizard.

#MM RECOMMENDATION

Walking into the theater, we were a bit apprehensive. Rowling’s magical world is as alluring and fun as ever! the best thing about this movie is exactly that. Exploring this world.

In the Harry Potter saga, with the exception of Deathly Hallows, most of the action was confined in Hogwarts. When we were taken out of the school, the main characters, being underage, were not allowed to do magic. The novelty in this movie is that we get to follow a fully fledged adult wizard in an entirely new environment and observe the dynamics and workings of the magical society.

Said wizard is New Scamander, a magical zoologist that traveled the world in order to find and document rare creatures, which he carries in his magical suitcase. When this suitcase gets mixed up with one that belongs to muggle Jacob, some of Newt’s creatures escape and cause problems in New York.

Eddie Redmayne shines in this movie. He plays a very clearly British, endearing and slightly awkward Newt, but the character’s kindness is obvious by the loving and friendly way that he treats his magical creatures. Dan Fogler does a great job as Jacob Kowalski, the muggle who is suddenly thrown into a world of wonder that existed beside him all along. He is the one the audience can best relate to, since he mirrors our sense of marvel. Katherine Waterstone and Alison Sudol also do a good job as the two vastly different magical sisters, who aid Newt in his adventure. If we had a small gripe, it would be that the excellent Colin Farell was in our opinion under used.

All in all, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a solid and visually stunning movie that manages to achieve three things.

First, although it takes place in the Harry Potter universe, it stands apart and has its very own story, which can be enjoyed separately from that of the famous young wizard. Second, it drops quite a few hints and names, which not only tie in nicely with the stories that we know, but also serve to set up the next installments, which are rumored to document Dumbledore’s past and connection with Grindelwald. Finally, the movie features a bustling 1926 New York, which coupled with the intriguing character dynamics, offers a brand new insight into Rowling magical world and leaves us poor muggles asking for more.

After following Harry’s adventures, many of us were left wanting to see much more of the story and luckily for us, it seems Rowling has that much more to offer. Personally, we can’t wait for the next movie, great job!

Lovers of harry potter triology would love this movie!

Doctor Strange: Weird, Amazing and surprisingly good

Metrosmag,SA

Storyline

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilising a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

#MM RECOMMENDATION

Wow! One of the most unsettling patch of scenes, it almost feels as if the world has a mirror view. DOCTOR STRANGE is an incredible mindtrip. Its VFX alone makes Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ look like some kind of beta test. And this film is so much fun, it’s hilarious, it’s got some of the most complex, most elaborate action sequences I’ve seen all year, and I can’t stop geekin’ out about the cloak of levitation. This is Benedict Cumberbatch making his grand entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Directed by Scott Derrickson who helped provide the script, DOCTOR STRANGE is about a successful, talented, arrogant neurosurgeon, Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Suddenly, a tragic car accident leaves Strange’s hands permanently damaged, which means he can no longer perform surgery. After trying western medicine, he hears of a man who was badly injured and then got miraculously healed, this leads Strange to the secrets of a hidden world of alternate dimensions. Under the teaching and guidance of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) Strange unleashes metaphysical abilities and ultimately takes on the responsibility of protecting earth from mystical threats.

Created by Marvel’s legendary artist, Steve Ditko, the character Doctor Strange is a very unique one because he’s not a product of some kind of technological armor, he’s not a nordic god nor a space alien, and he doesn’t get his powers from super serum nor gamma rays, and so kudos to Marvel Studios for taking a chance on this one of a kind character because it makes for an unbelievably fantastic origin story on screen that’s just different from the rest of the bunch that Marvel has introduced to us so far. And there’s just something refreshing about that.

What a great cast, they could not have picked a better lead star, Benedict Cumberbatch knocks it out of the park. Whenever Strange gets a bit cocky, you can see a little bit of Cumberbatch’s Sherlock attitude kicking in there. But Strange is more quick to sensibility whereas Sherlock would still have to put them all through his reasoning filters. And Cumberbatch’s sense of humor is absolutely sharp. There’s a ton of funny moments in this film but they never take away from the problem at hand or what Strange has to tackle at that very moment.

Mind tricks, imaginative trips and a lot of illusion makes it some trick of a movie. It really doesn’t get more of a movie magic than DOCTOR STRANGE. Best movie for adventure lovers.
