Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, popularly known as DJ Maphorisa was arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly assaulting his DJ and actress girlfriend Thuli Phongolo. This incident allegedly took place at the actress’s apartment in Sandton, Johannesburg. According to reports this happened after the actress tried to confront Maphorisa about a previous argument they had at a gig he was booked to perform at.
Phongolo claims that the DJ got aggressive and slapped her when she tried to confront the situation. She further stated that he then proceeded to “turn her into a punching bag” after he was done slapping her on the face. The actress described how the DJ took her to the balcony after beating her up in the apartment, and then continued to aggressively grab her by the neck while hitting her with his elbow, as they fought for her phone which he had taken away from her.
She said that she immediately called her manger after he gave her the phone. Her manager then accompanied her to the police station to file a case of domestic violence against the DJ. According to the police on some reports, Phongolo had suffered severe bruises on her neck. Some sources stated that it was not the first time something of this nature transpires between the two, and that that they have been having relationship problems as this was not their first heated argument. The two apparently had an argument last month as well, however, it never got to the police station. DJ Maphorisa is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court today on charges of assault.
