South African comedian Trevor Noah, nominated for an Emmy Award

The nominations for the Emmys, television’s equivalent of the Oscars, were led on Wednesday by Succession, an HBO drama about a super-rich family battling for control of an evil media empire. In a live-streamed announcement overshadowed by the possibility of a Hollywood actors’ strike that might disrupt the entire industry’s awards season, the show’s praised final season received a massive 27 nominations.

Two more HBO dramas, “The White Lotus” and the video game adaptation, “The Last of Us”, were named after Succession. Ted Lasso of Apple TV+ took first place in the comedy category with 21 nominations, while Beef and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story of Netflix took first place in the limited series category with 13 nominations each.

Trevor Noah, received Emmy nomination for The Daily Show. In December 2022, Noah left the The Daily Show making this his last nomination for the talk show. He has received a nomination in the heading of Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series.

The 75th Emmy Awards will be presented on September 18 following a final round of voting by the Television Academy’s 20 000 or so members. But with a strike threat from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and a deadline for discussions at midnight (07:00 GMT Thursday), the ceremony is very likely to be postponed.

A strike by actors would result in celebrities skipping the award show. To assist break the impasse over compensation and other conditions, studios including Netflix and Disney have requested federal mediators. even so, the actors’ union said late Tuesday that it is “not confident that the employers have any intention of bargaining toward an agreement”.
