Release date for the first African animated sci-fi series on Disney+ announced

The new 10-part animated anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, which was just announced by Disney+, will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, July 5. The announcement was made in honor of World Africa Day on May 25, 2023. The artwork was created by Nigerian director and artist Shofela Coker, who also created the short film Moremi.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire aims to take audiences on an amazing journey into the future of Africa by offering never-before-seen visions of the continent. It has stories from creators from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The action-packed animated anthology presents 10 sci-fi and fantasy stories with brave and bold new worlds of sophisticated technology, aliens, spirits, and monsters, drawing on the continent’s rich and diverse histories and civilizations.

The sci-fi was executive produced by Peter Ramsey, who co-directed the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, along side Tendayi Nyeke and Anthony Silverston from Triggerfish.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire also features an eclectic cast from across the globe and includes the voices of Florence Kasumba, Kehinde Bankole, Pearl Thusi, Hakeem Kae-Kazim , Sheila Munyiva, Stycie Waweru, Candice Modiselle, Lillian Dube, Clementine Mosimane , and Mandisa Nduna, as well as comedians Tumi Morake, Sne Dladla,Tyson Ngubeni and rappers Nasty C and Gigi Lamayne.
