What to expect at the METRO FM Music Awards 2023 (#MMA2023) this weekend

It was revealed not so long ago that presenting at the highly prestigious METRO FM South African Awards 2023 ceremony will be, South African popular presenter Katlego Maboe who will be presenting alongside dj, radio and TV personality Lerato Kganyago. The event will be taking place at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) recently announced more hosts. Somizi Mhlongo, Mpumi Mlambo, Sipho “Alphi” Mkhwanazi and Zanele Potelwa were said to be joining Katlego Maboe and Lerato Kganyago with hosting the event. It is expected that these talents will give the audience a very memorable award ceremony.

The ceremony will be broadcasted live on SABC 1, SABC Plus and on METRO FM’s YouTube channel at 8 pm in the evening. The public can tune in to any of these platforms to whatch some of the biggest South African music acts performing live on stage. Viewers can also expect to see some of their favourite celebrities on the “Black Carpet”. The SABC also released a list of nominees in different categories after inviting all record labels and independent artists to submit music which is suitable for entry. Submissions opened on 19 January, 2023 and closed on 28 February, 2023. According to the SABC, over 900 entries were submitted during that period.

The nominees rely on the public’s votes, therefore, it was highly encouraged that the public vote for their favourite artists in order for them to come out victorious. Voting lines closed on 30 April, 2023, at midnight with the “Song of the Year” category still open. The voting lines for this category will close on Saturday, 06 May, 2023 at 21h00. Tickets are still going on sale for those interested in attending the ceremony. These tickets rage from R150 to R500 depending on the seating.
