DJ Zinhle bails out on “Fact Durban Rocks” gig following AKA’s death

Zinhle Jiyane, popularly known as DJ Zinhle said that she currently doesn’t have any intentions of visiting the city where the father of her child was murdered. Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was fatally shot on February 10, outside a restaurant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The highly anticipated Cotton Festival and Durban July, are among other events which will draw a large number of celebrities to the city in July, making it a hotspot for the entertainment industry. Zinhle had been scheduled to perform at the Fact Durban Rocks event during the Durban July, but she has since stated that she is not yet comfortable with traveling to Durban.

“I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban. Emotionally, I’m not ready at all. I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban. It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durban. I’m going through the most. Forget about seeing me in Durban. It’s not even that I am mad at Durban. It’s just hard. It’s only been three months since Kiernan died, so maybe with time. But I’m hoping I never change my mind”, she stated.

She further said that she was also a little anxious about Father’s Day coming up next month, “What am I going to say to Kairo on Father’s Day?”, she said. Lynn Forbes, AKA’s mother, also mentioned that she needs some time to prepare herself mentally and emotionally before thinking about traveling to Durban, a place where her son took his last breath. She said the following in an interview with Carol Ofori on East Coast Radio:

“I don’t believe I would never go back to Durban again. I think it’s natural at the moment. I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment. It’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much. So it’s not Durban as a place, it’s not Durban as people. I think Kiernan loved Durban, his fan base is there, and the Megacy is alive in Durban”.

She further said, “One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there. I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there any more, but that is the last place where he was alive.”
