Gabrielle Union claims that she and Dwyane Wade split expenses 50/50 and that she has a “scarcity mindset”

The retired NBA player and actress have been married since 2014. This dynamic duo spreads the costs!. Actress Gabrielle Union said in a video clip from the Black Millionaires podcast that has gone viral online that she and her husband, retired NBA player Dwyane Wade, divide their money equally.

“In this household, we split everything fifty-fifty,” she said to the show’s host.

The 50 year old actress continued, “But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this like, gorilla on your back, that’s like, ‘You better work, b—, you better work. Oh, you’re going to sleep in?’ You know, somebody might not eat.”

Union further explained that she still has a “scarcity mindset” when it comes to money. She claims that it comes from when she was trying to make a breakthrough in Hollywood. “I struggle with that, still,” she said. “I think I just have more responsibilities for my money. I get nervous like, ‘Oh God, that movie didn’t open you know what does that mean? Do I – Am I … Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?’ “

According to Outkick, her 50-year-old husband Wade, retired from the NBA in 2019 having made almost $200 million while playing for the Miami Heat. Wade and Union have been married since August 30, 2014 in Miami. The couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony in front of family and friends.

Union revealed to Arsenio Hall that they intended for their wedding to be a completely family affair, with “no bridesmaids, no groomsmen. Just the two of us and the kids”. Since the start of her career in 1993, Union has had a very lengthy career as an actor and has amassed millions of dollars on her own. Her first appearance was as an uncredited extra in a Family Matters episode. She later played well-known parts in films like Bring It On and Bad Boys II.

The pair originally met in February 2007, but it took more than two years for their relationship to become public knowledge. When they first met, Wade was still married to his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, and Union had just finalized her divorce from her first husband, former NFL player Chris Howard. It seems mutual support has always been the backbone of their relationship. Wade discussed his marriage to Union with PEOPLE in advance of their seven-year wedding anniversary.

“It’s about learning about each other, learning what she wants for her life and for her career and trying to support all those things,” he said. Union agreed with those sentiments, adding, “This is both of our second marriages, and we’re super transparent about that. We didn’t do it right, the first time around. There’s another way — to be more collaborative and equitable. We humble ourselves, listen and we meet in the middle.”
