R.I.P Tina Turner: Tributes flood in for Legendary Global Icon and Queen of Rock ‘n Roll, Tina Turner

According to her publicist, Tina Turner passed away at her home in Switzerland following a long-term illness. Tina Turner, who over the course of 60 years in her career became known as the Queen of Rock due to her explosive voice and electrifying dancing, has sadly passed away at the age of 83.

In a statement released by her publicist, Bernard Doherty, it was revealed that the iconic singer passed away at her home on May, 24. “Tina Turner, the “Queen of Rock’n Roll” has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” read the statement. “There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family during  this difficult time”, Bernard stated.

The singer, who was born in the United States, lived with her German actor and music producer husband, Erwin Bach. The two had been residing in Switzerland since 1994. In 2013, the singer was granted Swiss citizenship. A stroke, intestinal cancer, and complete kidney failure that necessitated an organ transplant were just a few of the significant health issues suffered by Turner.

Turner, who had one of the longest careers in rock history, had Billboard Top 40 hits over a four-decade span, which helped her win Grammy Awards, a Kennedy Center Honor, and induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. She was the main focus in a recent HBO documentary about her life called Tina.

Together with her then-husband, Turner was the frontwoman of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, one of the most electrifying acts of the 1960s, serving up high-octane covers of “Proud Mary,” “Come Together,” and “I Want to Take You Higher”.

When Turner first went solo in the 1970s, she reinvented herself as a star of the MTV era, scoring hit singles with “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “The Best,” and “Private Dancer“. In the process, she rose to become one of the most successful female artists in the history of music.

Turner’s turbulent marriage to her musical partner Ike Turner, who brutally abused her physically and mentally, ruined her formative years. Ike passed away in 2007. A 1993 movie starring Angela Bassett called What’s Love Got to Do with It depicted her survival and terrifying escape from all the abuse.
