South African vineyard “Creation” named fourth-best vineyard in the world

On July 11, the winners of the 2023 World’s 50 Best Vineyards Awards were revealed, and South Africa’s Creation came at fourth place. It was also named as Africa’s top vineyard overall.

Forbes claims that the list explores the greatest wine tourism destinations throughout the world, emphasising “the best travel experiences for wine lovers and not just the quality of the wines.” The best vineyards are ranked according to their offerings of cuisine, distinctive lodging, and wine tastings.

The winners were Catena Zapata from Mendoza, South America, Marqués de Riscal from Rioja, Europe, and Chilean Vineyard from VIK Chile.

Fourth place was a no-brainer for Creation thanks to its magnificent vacation home made of eucalyptus wood and featuring views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

In order to create excellent, refined Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, Swiss winemaker JC Martin and his South African wife, Carolyn, purchased 40 hectares of virgin soil in Hemel-en-Aarde in 2002 and established an estate.

In 2006, the couple had their first harvest, and according to World’s Best Vineyards, ‘the couple’s combined viticultural pedigree, combined with a thoroughly modern approach to farming, winemaking, and hospitality, has turned Creation into an unmissable destination’.
